ABOUT

Hack the 6ix is the largest summer student run, not for profit hackathon located in the heart of Toronto. Every year, we select 400+ participants from a pool of over 1500 remarkable developers, designers, and innovators. We believe the diversity and talent of our hackers contribute greatly to the success of our event. Now in its sixth iteration, Hack the 6ix has established itself as a key player in the Toronto tech ecosystem and provides a platform for students to present their ideas of the future.

We're serious about making great events.

    MEET NEW FRIENDS

Physical distancing is serious, but meeting new people doesn't have to stop. Get geared up in your pajamas and chat away behind the safety of your digital screen. The only things we'll spread are heart reacts and lols.

    FIND A TEAM

The most memorable part of a hackathon are the people we work with. Create your own team or find new people to work with. Don't know who to work with? We can help with that.

    MAKE MEMORIES

Work hard, play hard. Share a few laughs with your teammates throughout the weekend. We guarantee it'll increase your synergy +10.

    BUILD CONNECTIONS

Hackathons are an amazing place to meet mentors and industry professionals in the tech community. A pandemic won't stop us from fostering important conversations.

    LEARN, PRACTICE, CREATE

We value sharing knowledge and applying the things we learned. We'll be hosting live workshops all weekend to give you the inspiration you need to get your project off the ground.

    COMPLETE A PROJECT

Show us. Show the world. We want to see what you're capable of and so does everyone else!

    Win prizes

    There’s something for everyone.

    Meet our sponsors

Connect with our sponsors that made this event possible! We will provide a virtual space for both hackers and sponsors to interact and get involved. Stay tuned for future sponsorship additions.

    Frequently Asked Questions

    • A hackathon is a live event where “hackers” (participants) design, develop, and pitch a software or hardware project built from scratch over the course of 36 hours. We will provide you with the resources and mentorship needed in order to make this happen!

    • We’ll be hosting a variety of workshops ranging from introductory to advanced topics facilitated by our amazing sponsors and mentors. There will also be interesting tech talks by industry leaders from different companies that you may attend to get a break from your project grind. In addition to useful workshops and talks, we have a ton of fun activities planned for you, such as games, contests, and more! Hack the 6ix is much more than just a hackathon – we want it to be an event that you’ll thoroughly enjoy while expanding your skillset and network.

    • This year, we are entirely digital! All events will be held and accessed on online communication platforms, so you can hack from the comfort of your home, no matter where you are!

    • Absolutely nothing! Hack the 6ix is a completely free event run by a non-profit organization. All resources and support for hacking for the entire event will be provided free of charge.

    • Make sure you have a device you can develop your project on, access to internet, and video/audio capabilities for chatting with your teammates, mentors, and sponsors!

    • Any secondary or post-secondary students or recent graduates are eligible to participate in our event.

    • Nope! Our mentors and workshops make sure that even if you’re new to coding, you’ll definitely pick up enough skills at the event to make a project. In addition, if you’re a designer or business student, your design and pitching skills are also very valuable!

    • They are open now and would be closing July 31 2020 at 11:59 PM EST. You can apply at !https://hackthe6ix.com/apply

    • Don’t worry, you may form or join a team by messaging the participant groups/chats that we’ll put you in during the weeks leading up to the weekend, as well as through team formation activities during the event. For ideas, check out our submissions from last year for some inspiration: https://hack-the-6ix-2019.devpost.com/

    • We allow team sign-ups of up to 4 people. All team members must sign up individually and specify the other team members on their application.
